Humboldt Co. harness racersi •prepare for season's finalsHumboldt County harness racers have covered three states, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri, in the last few days, and have set some remarkable standards.Getting them off to a fast start were the horses from the Alvin Ennen Stables of Gilmore City, running hard to win six big first places and one money finish. M. J's Bob, G. M. Sal’s Gal and Grandview Champ each picked up two big wins and Rudy Toot Toot, coming bade from a slow start this season, finished in the money. It appears thatthe Ennen Stables, A1 Ennen the father; Bruce Ennen,, oldest son and his wife Leigh; and youngest son Bart, have their horses ready for the final two big races of the year, the Eagles Race on Labor Day and the Clay County Fair, Sept. 12 and 13.Ed Krapp of Humboldt and his horse Golden Chief have been tough to beat all summer and they came up with a big win at the state fair when they won the Governor’s Trophy.We Three, owned by Kermit Shimons of Rolfe and driven by Don Cronk ofHumboldt, continues to pile up points with two second place finishes at Kahoka, Mo. You can expect that Orville Anderson and Cronk will haws the state champion ready for the final two meets.The Harry Dasen Stables have had a tough battle all summer, but H. H. Rick, owned by Paul Kampen and driven by Butch Dasen, won a first at the state fair and since then have been top finishers the last few starts. The recent purchase of Lil Tail Gaiter will improve their chances.Glenn and Larry Jensen took Careless Key for a tour of the Minnesota tracks and found some rugged competition. Careless Key lost a photo finish in a quick - time of 2:04.3. Jensens have brought Key along slowly and now feel they are ready for the best during the rest of the harness racing season.
