Dcatb of BlllF Olua.Captain Billy Glass, for many years one of .he most notable characters in tbit city, departed this life about half past twelve this morning, from his late residence, Front street, between Central avenue and Plum.Billy was, we believe, a native of this city, at all event* he cam9 to it when quite young, ie served his time as a stove molder with Wir. Resor A Co. Early evincing a decided predi-ection for politic* and lor running “wld der machine,” he joined the “One*” Fire Company a the palmy days of the old volunteer Arc department, and speedily became a power in the old Fourth or Algerine Ward. lie was elected Councilman, and for eighteen years represented his ward in that body. Twice he was Deputy Sheriff, and for a long time he was Captain of the “Ones,” and while he was a member of the Council anything tending to Improve the efficiency or to the benefit of our unrivalled ire department was always sure of his hearty supportDaring the war, while John Morgan was raiding through Kentucky, Billy organized an artillery company, borrowed a gun from Greenwood, and with four grey horses belonging to the Fire Department met the enemy at Cynthiana, ami was promptly captured by him, loeing his horses and artillery. This military achievement was celebrated by a local poet in a long string of verses, the refrain ofwhich was:Jump oa board the cars, boys,Every boy and man,And Billy will promote us When we get to Cyntbian.”For a long time Billy was connected with the L, C. L. Railroad Company as passenger agent. For some time he has been suffering from general debility, and only last week the firemen, railroad authorities and police force of this city gave a picnic for his benefit that realized quite a handsome amount of money.• Billy was quick tempered, but generous to a fault, and if “charity covereth a multitude of sins'* many of Billy’s peeadlllos will be forever hidden irom sight, for the needy or unfortunate never Importuned him in vain.
