The ages of these sufVrers are from 7 to 18. 1 he cause of their wf feting U a strike in favor of the ehvm hour system.Tliis is a case which appeals strongly to the sympathies of our nature. These poor children, at a tender age, and with immature strength, were required to labor 14 hours out of every 24. This was literally working them to death. The toil and confinement was too much for them. The parents (of such as have parents) of the overworked operatives, see log their children sinking under their burthens, implored their employers to remit a portion of their labor. But Avarice has no heart. The employers were inexorable. The children must work from day-light till sun-set, ot starve. They have chosen the latter alternative, and uo loss relief is extended to them they must starve. In this land of abundance, there is no excuse for thus overworking our children — A reasonable amount of labor can and shtuldKocure, for every American citfcen, ample i*d and raiment. The p*wr must not be thus borne to the earth. Factory Children should be protected by law thtm the op-Eastons and rapacity of their employer*, t in the absence of legal protection the j*ople should rise op to leiieve, cherish, and protect them. —Jitbuny Jour, twimssmesmasmmmHI«SVnary oih. u.:at pm stiucfe quart*a how mtnan of the would municilt;o tbc tics of the fir lion, a mite ai ed in i Europ alongT
