McCarty exes reminisce about good ole daysMcCarty exes came from all over the state of Texas, and also Nevada. Colorado, and New Mexico August 11 to enjoy a day of visiting, eating, and sharing tall tales of the good ole days of McCarty school and community events.At noon the table was filled with delicious food, after which a short program and business meeting was held Della Shipp gave the welcome and Dorothy Haney the response.Nadeen Blair and Mary Dean assisted with the gift portion of the program Lela and Ocie Grady were awarded the gift for traveling the farthest distance, 1,100 miles, and Lance and Amelia Furlow won second place for traveling 600 miles. Mrs. O.K. Shillinburg took the prize for the oldest lady at age 91. followed closely by Nora Garrett, age 90. and Ora Gowan. 86 Also winning prizes were Archie Haney, who was the first to attend McCarty school in 1910. Several w'on prizes for telling the tallest tales. They were: Raymond Peterson of Terrall, Texas, Otis Walls of Brownwood and Floyd Moore of Lamesa At 2 p.m. the group had an extra treat of happy hour which was homemade ice cream, cake, and lemonade Della Shipp was reelected to serve as president of the McCarty reunion to be held two years from this date. She in turn will appoint a committee to serve with her.Serving as the 1981 officers were: DellaShipp, president, Jean Sanders, Louise Jordon. Nadeen Blair and OpalDurham.The Dale Merrick Band consisting of Dale and Frankie Merrick, R.T. Bingham, Floyd Moore and Gene and Nina Truitt entertained the McCarty exes during the noon meal
