Monday, August 14, 1978, THE MEDICINE HAT NEWS—3It’s more than just Highway 3Highway 3 from Medicine Hat to Hope, B.C. has had an official name change.The Alberta government has designated it Crowsnest Highway 3, and the new name will appear on future road maps.A spokesman for the Southeastern Alberta Travel and Convention association in Medicine Hat said work on the name change has “been goingon for quite some time ... it’s been going on for a year or more.”The Alberta government was acting on (he recommendation of the association in making the change.An association spokesman in Medicine Hat said a motorcade last summer went along the route, explaining and discussing the plan as they moved from community to community. “It’s notsomething that just happened” she said.The name change has been met with approval, the spokesman said, and it would not have been changed without agreement from the various communities, Medicine Hat included.The Crowsnest Highway 3 Association has been meeting with government representatives to discuss a logo for the newly-named highway.The Alberta government has given approval to two possible logos and these will be discussed in mid-September with the B.C. association in Crowsnest Pass.The Alberta crest and name would be used on the Alberta side of the provincial boundary while the B.C. crest and name would appear on the logo on the B.C. side of the boundary.
