William B. Maxson relinquishes his command toMaj. Gen. William T. Twinting. current deputy chief of staff for Test and Evaluation, Headquarters Air Force Systems Command (AFSC), Andrews Air Force Base. MD.A formal change of command ceremony will be conducted Aug. 23 in King Hangar. General Robert T. Marsh. AFSC commander, is scheduled to officiate at the ceremony.Gen. Maxson will assume duties as vice commander of 15th Air Force, Strategic Air Command, March Air Force Base, CA. The general has commanded the Armament Division sinceMay 1981.Gen. Twinting was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Berwyn, 111, andgraduated from LaGrange High School. He attended the University of New Mexico, receiving a bachelor of science degree inmechanical engineering in 1951. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS.;Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, AL.; and the Air Force Test Pilot School, Edwards Air Force Base. CA.In July 1980 Twinting assumed duties as commander of the Space and Missile Test Organization, Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. Here he managed test and launch activities of Air Force space andballistic missile systems. He also operated the Western Space and Missile Center at Vandenberg and the Eastern Space and Missile Center, Patrick Air Force Base, FL. In addition to his responsibilities as commander, General Twinting served as deputy Department of Defense manager for Space Shuttle Support Operations.Twinting is a command pilot with more than 6,300 hours flying time and 100 combat missions in Southeast Asia.
