TEN YEARS AGO APRIL 26, 1920 Jay Richards died ‘Tuesdy from blood poisoning which de veloped from a small bliuse on this elbow which he received last week when he fell against a plow ‘He was 45 years of age and leaves his widow and three sons to mourn his death. The Osceola Woman’s Club en tertained as its guests at the An nual Spring party Thursday eve ning, the unfederated clubs of Polk County. Five local golfers representing the ‘Osceola Country Club car ried off second ‘honors at the first meet of the season held at David City last Sunday when Matt And erson shot 79 as compared with Eberly of David City, who shot 75. The team totals for David City 421 and for Osceola 428. ** State Engineer Cochran an nounced that “stop” signs are now being placed over the entire 200 miles of state highway sys tem. The last session of the leg islature authorized the depart ment of public works to erect “stop” signs on roads entering state highways. The department of pubic works ordered 16,000 signs for this purpose. Osceola representatives held the Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dexter came from Lincoln Friday and remained for a few days’ visit with Shelby relatives. They left the first of ‘the week for Denver, where they will make their fu ture home. ‘Mr. and Mrs. John Rasp drove to Columbus last week and with them returned their daughter, Mrs. Cornelius Kelley, and infant son, Terrence from St. Mary’s hospital. Mr. Kelley of North Bend, spent the weekend in Shelby at the Rasp home with his wife and children. Mrs. Kel ley and children will remain in Shelby for a week or longer. Friday, grading was begun on highway No. 16, east of Shelby. Trees have been blasted and the first half mile of grade is well under way. Quite a number from Shelby attended the Polk County Sunday School convention which was held at Wesley Chapel Sunday afternoon and evening. ‘A large attendance was reported. Mrs. Ellen Wills and her son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rollins of Exeter were in Shelby Sunday visiting at the homes of Mrs. Wills sons, George and Jack Wills. Mrs. W. E. Kinney returned home Thursday of last week from Willows, Calif., where she spent the winter at the home of her toar. Mark Kinney and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Andrews and daughters of Walden, Colo., who were here for a couple of weeks visiting relatives and look ing after business matters left on their return trip to Colorado Saturday. They were accompan ied by Jack Hottell also of Wald en, who had been visiting rela tives here for a few weeks. J. C. McGrew also accompanied his daughter, Mrs. Andrews and fam ily and will spend the summer with his children in Colorado and Wyoming. Mr.McGrew _ spent the past winter here at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Archie Mc Clung. Glen Ingalls, cashier and How ard Pierce, vice president of the First National Bank here, accom panied by their wives were in Columbus Friday and attended a bankers convention which was held at that place. A banquet was served Friday evening in the auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Zedicher took an early morning train in Columbus Saturday morning for Forrest Grove, Oregon, where they will visit at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Merle Cun ningham. “Church Night” is being held at the Shelby Methodist church this Thursday evening and is in
