Lieutenant Matthews visited in Wilkie on Monday prior to his de ferture for the firing line. Lieu tenant Matthews went over to Eng land with the first Canadian Con tingent and has been in several en gagements. He states that while he was in hospital somewhere in France, he was visited by Private Eric Bowen-Smith who was just re turning to the firing line. He said that Eric was looking fine and feel ing fit in spite of the fact that he had been in hospital for treatment for minor injuries, no les than three times and had met with some hair-breadth escapes to serious in juries. Lieutenant Matthews, who for several years was editor and proprietor of the Scott Herald, has recently been awarded a commis sion and has charge of a machine gun section. His wife and family are residing in Regina. He reports that Private Fredrickson, who met with serious casualties, his now practically recovered and will be on duty again by now.
