iThe Brevard college fine arts division will present Laurie Hendricks on the F'rench horn in a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Dunham music center on the college campus.Miss Hendricks, a sophomore, is the daughter of lx)is Hendricks of Seminole, Fla., formerly of Oak Forest.While at Brevard college, located in Brevard, N.C., I^aurie has participated in the concert band and the Asheville symphony. She studies French horn with Mrs. Gayle Chesbro, a faculty member at Furman university.Her program will feature such works as Mozart’s “Horn Concerto in E flat Major,” Frackenpol’s “Largo and Allegro,” Kantusek’s “Evocations, Effinger’s “Rondino” and Berlioz’ “Le jeune patre breton.”Miss Hendricks will be accompanied by Melissa Pauley, a piano major from Wellford, S.C.Barbara Bernard, a 1972 graduate of Carl Sandburg high school and Michael McCoy, a Bremen high school graduate, will be among the students recognized Sunday at the honors day program at Southern Illinois university inMcCoy is the son of Byron McCoy of Midlothian.Both students earned 3.5 grade point averages or higher in all courses taken at SIU.Each student will be recognized and presented with a ’ certificate commemorating the event. A reception will be held in the student center ballroom for all students, their families and guests.Eric Nelson, son of Mr. andMrs. George Nelson of Or land Park, has been appointed to the U.S. Military academy and will report to West Point on July 1.Nelson will graduate from Carl Sandburg high school in June.He was sponsored for the appointment by U.S. Rep. Edward Derwinski (R-Fourth). Nelson competed with 126 other young men and women from the Fourth Congressional district seeking appointments to the various service academies this year.“Eric is an outstanding student at Carl Sandburg and he has successfully passed rigid scholastic and physical requirements maintained by the Unites States Military academy,” Derwinski said. “I am proud to appoint such a fine young man of his caliber.
