KBIM returns to\Mainiair wavesonce againAfter 15 months of broadcasting from a hastily-converted department store, KBIM Radio and Television has moved into its new home.The delicate moving of expensive radio and television equipment from the former White's Department Store at 113 W Third St. to the remodeled offices and studios at 214 N Main St. was completed with “dollies and muscle” last weekend, according to Joseph A Carriere, vice president for television,While KBIM has been operating out of the new facility since Saturday andwall the equipment is moved in the small final details that plague anynew homeowner are still being ironed out, Carriere explained.For example. Tuesday afternoon found Carriere running a check on the lock and key situation for all of the doors in the building The original KBIM office at 308 N Main St. was destroyed by fire on May 31, 1977. Within seven days, both radio stations were operating out of the old White's building and within 10 days, the television station was back on the air. Carriere said.Station executives said they are. grateful for the generosity of the First National Bank, owner of the White's building.“The First National Bank in effectgave us a building for 15 months,”Carriere said.With the new facility comes the full use of new equipment obtained afterthe fire. Carriere said. Taylor said.Radio operations are set in the front of the new building with the television studio in the rear for convenient deliveries and the business and advertising offices in-between.
