Three Girl StudentsHere Given Prizes inUrban Essay ContestThree young women college •tudents here were awarded prizes yesterday as winners in the annual essay contest sponsored by the National Urban League as a part of its annual Vocation Opportunity Campaign.Victors over students from 600 colleges and high schools scattered throughout the country, the winners were handed checks by Miss Ann Tanneyhill of New York City, director of vocational guidance of the league, at brief ceremonies at Howard University.Miss Elizabeth A. Crawford, 20, Howard University sophomore, of Jacksonville, Fla., received the first prize of $150. She wrote ofher ambition to be a writer. She is a reporter on “The Hilltop,” the university paper, and a member of Kappa Sigma Debating Society.Second Prixe Winner.Miss Doris G. Gladden, 18, of 528 Forty-sixth street S.E., Washington, a sopfiomore at Miner Teachers’ College, won second prize of $100. She is specializing in foreign languages and hopes to be a teacher of languages. She wrote her winning essay on her ambition to be a language teacher in high school or college.Miss Renee E.
