Gerald Brown son of James T Brown Newcastile R A 2 won top honours with 960 points in the South Durham Dairy Calf Club show at the Orono Fair. Merrill Brown was close with 950 and several juniors followed with scores from 924 to 918. Showmanship also favored Gerald with first place, plus a second for the Ollie daughter. Orono District Credit Union Opens After Public Meeting
Twenty five people attended a public meeting in Orono Township Hall as the Orono District Credit Union Limited opened for business. By-laws were adopted, memberships and deposits began, and loans were discussed with a 50 cent membership fee. The Ganaraska Credit Union manager outlined security practices including character loans up to 50 dollars and promissory notes.

Bowmanville Man Dies From Carbon Monoxide
A 34 year old Bowmanville man was found dead in a garage behind his Beech Avenue home after reportedly being overcome by carbon monoxide while working on his car. The car engine was running. nephew William Stout found him and took him to Bowmanville Hospital where John Edward Stout was pronounced dead. He is survived by his wife Margaret and two young children Jenny and Thomas.
