Mr and Mrs J D Brown held a Newcastle gathering to honor forty years of marriage with family presents a lamp and hassocks and readings. Relatives included LeRoy Brown home from overseas and speeches by Aunt Nellie’s clan with musical tributes and refreshments.
Kendal Miss Georgina Darlington of Ajax and Mr and Mrs George Clark spent the week end at their summer home. M Soper drove to Toronto to visit his wife in Toronto General Hospital. Mrs Norman Therrell Hazel and Mrs Newbiggin from Detroit returned to Toronto. The Vannatto family from Port Arthur arrived to visit relatives. Mrs G S Martinell returned home after a week in Roseneth following her father's sudden death.
Saturday at the Orono Fair grounds the Durham Agricultural Society hosts a full program of live stock and poultry judging, farm produce, and domestic manufacture. Entertainment includes horse races, carriage trials, a merry go round, professional acts, and an amateur show with various classes. Entries for the amateur acts due by Friday night with piano provided. The Orono Band will parade to the grounds for a 90 minute program.
The funeral for Blodgett notes he lived on his maternal grandfather Samuel Merrill's farm where Merrill's church and cemetery stand. Rev. R C White said he was humble and faithful, a prominent farmer, and an active church and community member. Two daughters reside in Kendal, Mrs G B Martinell and Mrs C Thertell.
Mrs Fox of Toronto visits Mrs Silver and Mrs Bert Trim returns from Toronto. Warren Carson family attends Lindsay Fair. Carl Todd hosts Sunday dinner with Orme Falls couple. J Henry Toronto visits Ross Hallowell. Bert Trim Gordon Trim Hugh Stapleton duck hunting. Minto W A Hallowell Ross Hallowell attend Lindsay Fair. Shiloh W A meeting hosts ten ladies at Mrs Ewart Robinson. Next meeting at Mrs Carl Todd. Miss Norma Howe hosts Sunday dinner. Among coasteli are Gordon Powers Clarke Union Carlos Tamblyn Orono families. Miss Margaret Harper Frances Lanfear Beulah Hallowell Toronto Llew Hallowell family.
Leskard notes include Herb Duvall returning from furlough in St Hyacinthe and locals visiting Lindsay Fair. Couple B Lyer and Jack visited Lloyd at Niagara Falls. K Robert Chaters joined them. Keith Tennant starts housekeeping in Bowmanville. Two locals return from service Roy Spry and Harold Thompson. Leskard Church Anniversary set for Sunday Sept 28 at 7 30 Rev C Smith in charge Kirby Cookr music. Bradshaws sold home on 8th Line to Mrs McCausland and daughter. moving soon.
The Cowanville Women’s Association met at Mrs Wes Stringer’s with good attendance. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs JE Gray on their marriage, and to Jack Moffat on his marriage. Visitors include Ellen Ramsbottom from Bow manville and various locals visiting Hamp ton and Toronto guests.
Glen Bradley travels west to help with harvest. Phyllis Stewart attends Normal School in Peterborough. W H Hardy assists Mr Ard with threshing. Lindsay Fair draws large attendance. Miss Marjorie McLaren teaches at Enter prise in Orono. Mrs John Moffatt recovering from poison ivy. Dr Dinniwell visits Pontypool for Wednesday dental visits. Crusade Movement sermon by Rev R F Malcolm noted. Anniversary and Thank Offering service at McCreas Church on Sunday September 30 at 3.00 pm with former minister J E Harvey as guest speaker. Kirby choir to provide music.
Kirby community gathers for Rally Day at the church on September 23 and marks the Kirby United Church anniversary on October 14 with services at 3.00 p.m. and 7.30. Other notes include visits, a birth in Bowmanville Hospital, W. M. S. and W.A. meetings, and talks on Africa and public schools.
