Gas Shutdown In Cobourg After Year End
Gas consumers in Cobourg were told that the Hydro Electric Power Commission will not operate the town gas plant after December 31 this year and may close sooner if possible. The commission offered to sell the plant to the town but the price was deemed too high and the offer was declined.

Obituary: Herman Davis of Clarke Union Passes Away
Herman Davis aged 79 years 8 months died September 5 1988 at Kelstern Sask after a life on farm and Westward moves. He leaves one daughter Mrs George Stewart Kelstern and a strong old Clarke Union farming legacy. Funeral September 7 at 2 pm from Morton Stewart home to St Boswell Cemetery.

Fishery Places Trout Fry in Gull Lake District
The Department of Game and Fisheries released 1,800 speckled trout in Gull Lake near Lindsay last week. This season the department has placed 20,000 fry in the district waters.

Death of Former Orono Resident Joshua McCormick
Mr. Joshua McCormick, a former Orono boy, died in Mt Vernon New York on Saturday September 10 in his 62nd year. He moved to Mt Vernon as a youth and worked as paymaster for a telephone crew. He later ran a delicatessen and then retired after selling his business. His wife died years earlier and a stroke left him bedbound for years before death. Old school chums in Orono mourn his loss.

Charles Franklin Cornish of Oshawa died last Thursday. He ferried north of Bowmanville on July 4, 1874, moved to Oshawa 45 years ago, and was married to Ada Luella Hall about thirty six years ago. He leaves his wife six Oshawa children seven sisters and one brother.

Durham County Girls Win at C N E Nutrition
Durham County girls led by Miss Trumpour and Miss Armstrong won the nutrition team event at the C N E Agriculture Day. Individual results placed Miss Trumpour first and Miss Armstrong eighth, with Miss Marion Belch and Miss Ruby Tallis placing second in a demonstration. Boys excelled in livestock and seed judging with Garnet Rickard first in Swine, Wm Rowland first in Seed and Root, and Harry Kennedy high placing in Sheep.
