Renewing Old Acquaintance at Antique Car Fair

Port Hope Ontarios complete 5-0shoeing of Orono Orphans

In an eight game Best of seven Major A intermediate series Port Hope Ontarios ousted Orono Orphans 5-0 on Orono home ground. Long John Holman pitched a four hit shutout with four strikeouts and three walks. The Ontarios collected twelve hits led by Neil Wakely and George Fenton with multiple RBIs and runs scored. A seventh inning double play ended the game.

Fire Destroys Kendal Barn

A barn in Kendal was completely destroyed on Wednesday afternoon as winds favored the fire’s path. The blaze, on the Stoker property behind the house, left nearby Turansky's store and other homes spared due to lack of water and firefighting equipment.

WoodSays He Will Appeal Judge Ruling On Practice Ban

Millbrook restaurant operator Alex Woods 51 may lose eligibility to practice as a solicitor in civil or criminal courts after a reserved judgment by Magistrate T Y Willis. Woods was fined 25 dollars plus costs after appearing in Port Hope for charges tied to accepting a legal fee for representing Kenneth Wilson of Campbellcroft in Port Hope last January. The Law Society of Upper Canada brought the charge and Willis reserved judgment until Thursday.

Colborne Girl Crowned Tobacco Queen at Orono Fair

Miss Caroline Tozek of Colborne won the Tobacco Queen crown at the Orono Fair in front of about one thousand attendees. She received a cash award and a bouquet, chosen from ten contestants by judges A McLaren J Bell and M Talbot. Tobacco King honors went to Clarence Moore, with L McDonald as runner-up, and a tobacco tying contest awarded a $25 prize to Pat Cafferry Edith Bloomfield and Elaine Richardson.

Orono Fair Showcases Major Art Display and Cattle Exhibits

The Orono fair highlights a major two day exhibit in the Agricultural Building with 100 canvases plus strong cattle and horse displays. Attendance improves as displays reach new counters while the art department draws praise from local and nearby artists.
