The Orono Amateur Athletic Association needs public donations by Tuesday to decide if the Orono Rink can open for the year. As of now only 126 dollars have been raised of an 800 to 1000 dollar goal to support youth programs for under eighteen.
The WMS Autumn Thank offering met Wednesday November 11 with Newcastle and Orono auxiliaries as guests. A devotional focused on Remembrance Day followed by talks on Chinese women and crafts. A vocal trio performed Till the Light of the Master Shines Through, and lunch concluded the event.
The Group Orphans defeated Lakefield 5 to 3 at Peterborough to claim their first win, then beat Cobourg 8 to 4 in Port Hope. D West scored multiple goals, Shetler and Johnston contributed, and Hooper yielded goals while losing his beard.
Miss Evelyn Claire Stevenson daughter of Mr and Mrs John F Stevenson Orono marries Henry Arthur Le Vaillant of Toronto son of Mr and Mrs R M Le Vaillant in a ceremony at Orono United Church officiated by Rev O E Broughton assisted by Rev John Kitchen. Out of town guests from New York Detroit Regina Hamilton and Toronto. The couple will reside in Toronto after a visit to points east.
Longtime Orono resident James E Hurd Richards born May 28 1870 in Orono built the villages first soda fountain and ran a barber shop. He served in local lodges and held office in the Odd Fellows. He died November 9 in Bowmanville after a brief illness. funeral held November 12 with service in Bowmanville and burial at Orono Cemetery.
Marion Elizabeth Collinson daughter of Mrs. Collinson and the late John Franklin Collinson and Francis Grant Moffat son of Mr. and Mrs. William Scott Moffat were married in Christ Church Markdale Saturday Oct 31. Rev C O Pherrill officiated. The bride wore white satin and French lace with a fingertip veil and carried Talisman roses. Betty Swan of Toronto was bridesmaid and Judith Piper of Clarksburg was junior bridesmaid. Groomsman was Donald Graham of Port Hope and ushers were Jack Moffat of Orono and Mack Duncan of Fleischerton. A reception followed at the bride’s home. The couple will reside in Toronto.
The Clarke Union Home and School group met on November 18 with entertainment by Mrs Rowe who read and Mr Chas Cooper who violin played with Charlie Taylor on piano. Mr Raymond Chapman sang with Mrs Chapman at the piano. Guest speaker Mrs J Tamblyn spoke on the Women's Institute and World’s Convention in Maple Leaf Gardens. A presentation honored Mr and Mrs Harold Heard for their recent marriage. Lunch and social hour followed.
On November 10, OHS students gathered for a hay ride organized by Mrs. Chater and Mr. Rutherford. They rode, danced, and ate lunch in the lower school room before returning home at noon. Thanks are given to Francis Quantrill for the tractor and wagon and to Donald Sherwin for the hay and wagon.

About 600 teenagers from 48 communities attended a Lindsay Conclave rally tied to The Ontario Temperance Federation. Speaker Jack McNie urged decency and sobriety, warned of group pressure, and offered a four point plan to resist drinking with emphasis on saying no, choosing friends, building skills, and joining community activities.
Landowners may apply for trees to establish new plantations on non agricultural land or shelter belts. Eligibility requires plots with at least one acre and 250 trees per acre for a wood, or belts 200 feet long with specific spacing. Prices are 14 per thousand for Scotch Pine and 10 per thousand for other species. Applications go through the Department of Lands and Forests at Lindsay or Toronto. payment is not with the application.
The Women's Christian Temperance Union of Orono met November 17 at United Church Sunday School Auditorium. President Mrs. H. Walsh led with prayers and hymns. Devotional by Mrs. H. Rowe covered The Solid Rock and mentioned the Lindsay Temperance Convention, with plans to collect gifts for Hillcrest Home at Port Hope for December.
Kendal residents hosted visitors from Toronto Peterboro and Enniskillen last week and welcomed back Mr. Alexander who is recovering. A funeral for Mrs. Phs A Soueh was held at Morris General Chanel with interment in Orone Cemetery. Mr and Mrs Blake Alexander celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on November 11. The W A meeting will be at Miss Hilda Bell home on November 25 with Rev John Kitchen as guest speaker.
