Canadians nationwide will switch to ration book No 3 starting January. December 31, 1943, marks the final day to buy sugar tea coffee and meat with No 2 coupons. Old sugar and tea coffee coupons expire December 31 along with home canning sugar. Meat coupons Nos 25 usable November 11 to 30. The last meat coupons in No 2, No 26, usable November 18 to December 31.

Top Prices Set On Vegetables by Wartime Board
Wartime Prices and Trade Board fixes maximum selling prices for fresh vegetables from grower to consumer in Ontario. Beets cabbage carrots parsnips turnips and rutabagas have specified ceilings for unwashed and washed forms with 15 percent markup for direct to retailers and 30 percent markup for direct to consumers. Waxed vegetables share the washed price and tops may remain on beets and carrots.

Articles Wanted For Red Cross Bazaar
Orono Branch held its regular meeting in the Orange Hall. The workroom open each Thursday for knitting and sewing materials. Forty boxes have been sent overseas with $97.80 donated locally. The Christmas Bazaar is the main yearly event inviting fancy work, aprons, vegetables, fruit, poultry and eggs for sale and further plans will be announced.

Four Die in Garden Hill Air Crash In Malton Training Flight
An Avro Anson from No. 1 Air Observer School crashed near Garden Hill during a routine night training, killing four aboard including civilian staff pilot Harry Chambers Freeman and three military trainees from Malton. Freeman, 23, had served as civilian staff pilot since 1942 after RC A F service. The other three trainees were from New Zealand Britain and Poland.

Ontario boosts old age pensions by five dollars a month
Hon R P Vivian announces a five dollar monthly increase in Ontario old age pensions bringing the maximum to 28 dollars. The rise, effective November 1, will cost 900000 for Ontario from a 75 25 federal Ontario cost share and affects 60000 to 70000 pensioners under review for eligibility. Housing and home lien relief are being negotiated with Ottawa while medical care continues under the Ontario Medical Association accord.
