Trustees Propose Two Hour Parking Limit in Orono

Orono trustees at a regular meeting passed a resolution asking Clarke Township to enact a two hour parking by law on Main Street from the Main and Mill intersection to Sabre Street, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They discussed parking lines, diagonal parking on both sides, water project approvals, and financing for a fire hall addition and engineers.

Swimming Instructor Employed For July Program

Orono Water Safety Club hires Mrs Reynolds Hammon as swimming instructor for four weeks in July starting July 6. Lessons run daily 9 30 to 1 30 for all ages and groups at Orono Pool under Bowmanville and District Red Cross. A Red Cross examiner will test swimmers at program end.

Hydro System Expands Staffing to Match Growth

The district plans cast for Hydro to keep pace with system growth as a trial balance shows improved finances versus the prior year, indicating a stronger local hydro position.

Health United Report From Northumberland Durham Unit

The April health unit report details new housing growth and 84 lot approvals for private sewage plans, 93 inspections, and new school sites at South Cavan and Alnwick. It covers water system hearings in Orono, disease counts including 259 communicable cases with measles and chickenpox, one rabid animal, vaccines, x rays, tuberculosis, sanitorium admissions, Quad and Triad vaccine series, and school health activities. Chest clinics served 47, vision tests for 1,062 pupils, and 945 family visits.

Norah Grace Wood Weds Paul Hetherington in Orono Church

Norah Grace Wood daughter of Mr and Mrs Wesley R Wood of Orono married Paul Allan Hetherington son of Mr and Mrs Allan Hetherington of Fenelon in a May 23 ceremony at Orono United Church officiated by Rev Basil Long with music by Mrs M H Staples and soloist Carolyn Jones. The bride wore a white silk organza gown with Chantilly lace and a chapel train. attendants wore azure blue silk organza and taffeta. After the ceremony a reception was held at the church auditorium and the couple planned to live in Oshawa after a honeymoon to the Poconos. Approximately 30 relatives attended the shower in Fenelon Falls and additional showers were held in Oshawa and Orono prior to the wedding.

Linton matriarch mourned as Orono fair plans progress

Kathleen Mene Linton known as Aunt Kit died May 18 1964 after a long illness in Bow‑Manville Memorial Hospital. She served with the Inter-allied Caribbean Commission in Washington and later with the Girl Guides in Canada. Her funeral was in Bowmanville St Josephs Church. The Durham Central Agricultural Society met in Orono with 26 present to outline plans for the 1964 Orono fair including horse shows 4H safety day rodeo and a children’s day with various contests and events.

High School Holds Elections for Student Council

Assembly in the gym reviewed life in Formosa by Mr. Shearer of a local fertilizer plant. Candidate lists were announced for the Clarke High School 1964-65 Student Council with nominees for president, secretary, treasurer, and publicity director.

Osborne Elected President of Eastern Breeders Inc 1964

Mr KE F Russell Osborne of Newcastle Ontario was chosen president of Eastern Breeders Incorporated for 1964. He served as Durham County Director for the Quinte District Cattle Breeding Association since 1948 and led that group in 1960. He is active in farmer groups church and community and breeds Scottish Highland cattle.
