Orono Police Trustees Finalize Fire and Road Decisions

In a regular meeting the Orono Police Trustees approved purchase of 100 feet of 1 1 4 inch hose and two fog nozzles for firefighting. They discussed motel permits, sewage disposal tests, and road drainage as they plan highway entrances and potential underpass options with local officials.

Bowmanville Rotary President Oddy Robson Dies Suddenly

Bowmanville Rotary Club announced at noon Friday that their luncheon meeting was canceled due to the sudden death of president Town Councillor Oddy Robson around 10 am. He, 49, had been active in town politics and several fraternal orders and left a wife Laura and two daughters. Funeral services followed at Trinity United Church with interment at Fenelon Falls Cemetery.

Arthur E Clemence Dies at Orono After Short Illness

Arthur E Clemence aged 79 dies at Orono on March 16 1955 after moving from Seaforth to Orono in 1951. He leaves a sister Evelyn Powers of Orono a brother Cleave of Oshawa and his wife Alice Watson predeceased him in 1951. Funeral in Lang Memorial Chapel Grono March 18 conducted by Rev John Kitchen with five nephews as pallbearers Charlie Clemence Norgrove Clemence Leland Ball Douglas Barnes Roy Powers and William Riddell.

Boy Scouts Plan First Paper Drive This Saturday

Village based Boy Scout Troop announces its inaugural Paper Drive this Saturday morning April 2. Monthly pickups aim to collect old newspapers and magazines to support Scouting, equipment, and summer programs. Scout Russell and Scout Laurence Sherwin earned Tenderfoot badges at a Monday ceremony.

Ontario Junior Farmer Group to Tour England and Scotland

Four Ontario Junior Farmers will sail to Britain this spring under the Ontario Department of Agriculture. The selected youths include Miss Marie Saunders Nan tico ke Miss Marilyn Parks Cooper James Needham Ripley Rev S Gray Port Hope led by R G Bennett associate director of extension. Gray, a 275 acre Durham County grower of mixed crops, is active in 4 H and has served as a local Junior Farmer leader and county federation officer.

Fire destroys barn and cattle at Newcastle farm

A flash fire at Bill Dykstra's Newcastle farm destroyed the barn and 20 cows, two calves, grain, hay, and milking equipment worth an estimated 30,000 dollars. Fire originated in the west end likely from exposed wiring and spread in high winds as the Dykstras were away shopping. The Bowmanville and Newcastle brigades investigated the blaze.

Fundy Flying Club appoints Donald McLaren as instructor manager

Donald McLaren 28 of Orono Ontario is named instructor manager of Fundy Flying Club at John New Brunswick. He brings aviation experience from Sky Harbor Air Services Oshawa and holds a commercial pilot rating and transport instructor rating. He succeeds Dongasedald Allin who joined Maritime Central Airways.
