Oshawa Juniors Triumph 7-1 Over Sudbury in Spotlight Game

On Wednesday the Oshawa Juniors defeated Sudbury 7 to 1 in a district match. The Quinte Seed Fair at Peterborough featured the Junior Farmers Seed Judging with sixty two Ontario boys competing, Durham County dominating with the Warden's Trophy for the eighth straight year and multiple top finishes across individual classes.

West Durham members attend East Durham County Orange Lodge annual meeting in Millbrook with over one hundred attendees and a July 12 commemoration invite for Orono. Grand Master E. Mitchell spoke on the Power of Prayer. Roy Cornish of Port Perry coaches a rising Port Perry Midget team with recent Paris midget win. Ontario Championship final set in Oshawa between Paris and Port Perry.

House Burns at Clarke Lot 5 Concession 4

Fire destroyed the home of T. W. Burnett at Clarke three houses east of Dean's corner on Monday noon. The upper portion burned first. downstairs furniture was saved. Two families lived there including Mr and Mrs Noble. Burnett was away in Oshawa. cause believed to be a defective stove pipe or chimney.

Seed Judging Prep Guidance Before the Competition

The competitors received coaching on seed judging from their Agricultural Representative prior to the event. This guidance aimed to sharpen evaluation methods and ensure consistency in scoring among participants.

Potato Champion Wins at Quinte Seed Fair

Mr R H Blakely of Manvers captured all three top honors at the Quinte Seed Fair in Peterborough, March 22 24 winning first prize for Irish Cobblers and Katahdins and the championship for the best bushel. The event showcased twenty eight bushels with Blakely using certified seed only and included a five variety demonstration. The Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph ordered twenty bags of the seed for its farm and the Durham County Boys Club also requested stock. He still has potatoes for sale and can be reached at Pontypool.

Backfire Causes Fire In Orono Truck

Mr. W. J. Coheen of Pontypool had his truck catch fire in Orono on a Wednesday afternoon after turning from Main Street onto Park Street. A flooded carburetor caused gas to spill, the engine back-fired, and gasoline burned on the road and under the hood. He extinguished the flames and restarted the engine with no damage.

Bicycles Proliferate in Orono Street Scene

In Orono Ontario letters to the editor note many boys received bicycles this season. The writer urges schools and press to warn about hazards on Main Street as Garg and trucks use it as a speedway and speeding laws should be enforced to protect youths.

Welcome Resident Marks His 90th Birthday

Friends and relatives of Cornelius Crossley gathered at his son Lewis J. Crossley’s home to celebrate his 90th birthday. Born in Clarke township, he farmed there and later lived in Port Hope with strong interests in radio and books. His wife Mary Harness died about 12 years ago.

Kirby Choir Social Honors Mrs. Cobbledick With Clock

The Kirby choir hosted a social evening at Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Bryson's home. D. A. MacKinnon led the program citing Mrs. Will Cobbledick for a duet of honor, Miss Mildred Allin gave a proper address, and Miss Aileen Morgan presented a walnut mantle clock. The surprised recipient expressed gratitude for loyal cooperation. The event closed with games and a dainty lunch.

Plan Six Clubs This Year For Durham Junior Farmers

The Department of Agriculture plans to form six boys clubs in Durham county this year to foster appreciation of cattle and horses and to promote certified seed potatoes and registered grain. Calf, beef heifer, potato, grain and foal clubs will be offered. Members aged 12 to 20 may join, including veterans from last year. Attendance is on a first-come basis. Cash prizes await members who complete projects and exhibit. Two top members from each club will go to an inter-county contest at Guelph this fall.
