Orono residents urge creation of a local Fish and Hunt Club to protect and expand the district’s fish and game. They note past abundance, current scarcity, and government programs favor districts with organized groups. A public meeting is proposed to discuss forming the club.
Clarke Township Council met on March 2 1943 with full membership present. Minutes approved. Council appoints representatives for School Sections and renews Assessor's Association dues. A dog tax raise to 3 dollars is passed and bills totaling listed expenses are approved. Meeting adjourns to April 6 1943 at 1 30 PM.
The Orono Horticultural card party held Monday evening drew ten tables of 500. Prizes included ladies high score Mrs J R Cooper men Mr Couch consolation Mrs Ed Dean for men and Mrs iCouch for ladies. Two lucky prizes went to Mrs C H Froste and Mr M H Staples. Lunch closed the event.
The Kirby community will hold a dance and prize draw in Orono on Friday April 16. Prizes include a pig or cash, a quilt, a flour weight, and a bushel of apples with tickets already sold. Proceeds go to the Red Cross Society. Durham County's First Seed Fair also takes place Saturday in Orono Town Hall trading seeds and orders.
The Orono Chamber of Commerce met at Kumrite Apartments. They discussed Hybrid seed corn from Windsor for canning and seed, proposing farmers test plantings and potential profits with St. Lawrence Starch Co. in Port Credit. A harvest unit could serve twenty farms and harvest before frost. A July 1 sports day in Orono Community Park was set, ending with a dance. committee members were named.
