Durham MPP outlines area road program for 1967

Alex Carruthers MPP for Durham reports an extensive highway plan from Queen's Park. It covers reconstruction of Highway 7A from Bethany to 115, rebuilt 115 at County Rd 10 to Millbrook, 18 mile paving of Highway 28 north from South Monaghan, and completion of the 28 overpass at 115. The plan includes resurfacing 115 westward 7.5 miles and Bowmanville area contracts for grading drainage paving and bridge work on Super Creek.

Orono Atom Hockey Wins Local Tournament Championship

The Orono Atom hockey club captured the Orono Atom tournament with a 3-2 overtime victory over Millbrook for the championship. Newcastle beat Bowmanville 5-2 to claim the consolation trophy as Orono and Wellington vie for the Eastern Ontario Championship.

Clarke Library Sees Rise in February Loans

Clarke Public Library reports February 1967 loans total 1275, up from February 1966 by 168, with 611 for children. The year end total volumes stands at 330. Open hours extended to Thursday 4 to 5 PM and $200 funded purchase of children’s books from Women’s Canadian Club grant.

Red Cross Annual Appeal Calls for Local Support

March marks Red Cross month as Bowmanville and District branch raises funds to sustain services in Orono and surrounding areas. The drive lists blood donations, home nursing training, first aid awards, loan equipment, disaster relief clothing and shelter, emergency aid, water safety courses, and ongoing demonstrations to benefit 1650 people in four areas. Campaign head Mrs Grady seeks volunteers to canvass and urges public support to continue aiding less fortunate neighbors.
