New Books At The Library And Local Meeting Notes
A list of new adult and juvenile books is announced along with a provincial riding Women's Organization update. The Durham Riding group plans events including a March card party in Orono and discussion of Centennial cookbooks. The New Democratic Women's Organization in Durham Riding met at Mrs Gould's Bowmvil s home on Monday evening February 19. An election of officers for 1968 was held with President Mrs W Hill Hampton Vice President Mrs H Coutts Hampton and Secretary and Press Reporter elected.

Packing Plant Fire Destroys Stein Packers in Port Hope
A blaze at Stein Packers Ltd. Port Hope and adjacent factories swept part of the complex Saturday night. Winds fanned the flames for hours turning the scene into a towering inferno visible across town. Fire departments from Port Hope Hope Township and Cobourg battled the fire after 9 p.m. as crowds watched traffic snarls form near Cavan Street.

Clarke Players light again with A Man for All Seasons
About 150 district residents attended a repeat performance in New rssle on Friday evening. The Clarke Players again drew public demand and delivered a hit with A Man for All Seasons. A purse snatching occurred Monday on Church Street Orono. the purse was recovered with the money missing and no arrest yet. Also notes visits between Bowmanville Toronto Markham and Oshawa area residents and a fire at Cosmos Chemical warehouse where firefighters saved 45000 dollars of paints.

New picnic areas and enlarged existing ones, plus two hiking trails from a new parking lot near Durham headquarters, invite year round use.
