Orono Centennial Week Opens With Six Days Of Activities
Orono marks its centennial with six days of events beginning Tuesday July 4. The lineup includes a parade of antique fire engines, amateur talent contests, a beef barbecue, Old Time Fiddler's contest, a centennial ball, shopper’s mall, trap shooting, art show, band concerts, and a church service. Sponsored by the Orono Athletic Association, Chamber of Commerce, Park Board, Fish and Hunt Club, Art Group, and United Church, the program runs along Main Street with entertainment for all.

Orono Public School Holds 1967 Graduation Exercises
Graduation exercises for the Orono Public School Grade 8 class were held Monday evening at the Orono United Church. Twenty eight graduates attended a dinner in the church basement followed by certificate and award presentations and an address by guest speaker Mr G MacLeod. Special and athletic awards were presented to multiple students including Sally Staples Antioch Trophy recipient, Nancy Barraball and Lloyd Gifford Citizenship, with the 1967 graduating list announced.

Orono Hydro Commission Seeks Manager as Dent Nears Retirement
The Orono Hydro Commission has not yet hired a new manager as E. Dent plans retirement at month end with a fee for service arrangement. Dent noted his formal resignation six months ago. A candidate, K Messenger, applied but illness delays a decision. The panel also discussed stove removal from Clarke High School and rental for an old ladder truck.
