Miss Orono 1961 Queen Crowned At Town Hall Dance
Gayle Willis, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Willis of Orono and Orono High School student, was crowned Miss Orono 1961 at the town hall Hi Teen Dance. Five finalists competed including Sheila Barraball Joan Cowling Sue Major Mary Reid. Presentation included bouquet crown ribbon and a $25 cheque from the Orono Chamber of Commerce.

Demonstration of Resuscitator at Orono Village Event
A Wednesday evening demo at the Orono Municipal Building showcased the Resuscitator. About twenty five attendees learned its use, with C Harris and Bruce Mercer explaining operation. The device, stored in the Orono Fire Hall, is ready for scene access via the Fire Department.

A presentation in Orono Oddfellows Hall honoured Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton on Saturday June 23. Friends and relatives, including guests from Port Hope, Toronto, Oakville, Oshawa, Newcastle, Newtonville, Cobourg and Bowmanville, attended. Gifts listed included two table lamps two step-up tables a coffee table and an artificial centre piece. Hazel and Everett spoke appreciatively. Music was by John Scott and family. A lunch followed.

Recreation Director to Start Program Monday at Orono Park
The Orono Amateur Athletic Association launches a two month summer program from July 3 with Miss Mary Lynn Bailey as director. Each day runs 10:00 am to noon and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm offering tennis softball volleyball football croquet crafts and hikes for boys and girls. No enrolment or charge. Activities include organized games and equipment provision.

Orono High School principal A Witherspoon announced the appointment of Miss Gisele Lavergne of Sturgeon Falls Ontario to teach French and History beginning September. She replaces Miss Pauline Seguin who resigned to teach in Ottawa. Lavergne holds a General B A from Western University London with history major and French equivalent, plus Philosophy and English minors and has held Brescia Hall alumni and Mary Jane Friessen scholarships.

Twenty four members of the Peterborough Ornamental Swimming Club wowed attendees at the official opening of the Orono Swimming Pool in Orono Park.
