The Orono Chamber of Commerce announces Gene Cody and Kipling Bros. Circus will perform at the Orono Fair Grounds with two matinee and evening shows on Thursday June 22. The tented event features clown acts pony and poodle parade aerial stunts and elephant displays.
Clarke Township Council meets in special session with the Cemetery Board and provincial officials to discuss abandoned cemeteries. They consider transferring titles from the Presbyterian Church to the township, outline restoration costs, and propose a two-part budget for maintenance and perpetual care.
Modernized Cornish's Red and White Market holds an official opening this weekend in Orono and area. The store expanded west adding display space and a new steel shelving centre isle with new freezer counters. A self serve meat counter offers personal service from butcher Gary Hancock and a redesigned decor enhancing merchandising. The event runs Thursday to Saturday with free gifts and puzzles for children and draws.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Chapman marked their silver anniversary with a surprise party hosted by neighbors on June 13 in Oshawa area. Friends gathered at the bride’s home before a plane arrival from Burnham England by their son Donald. A festive evening featured flowers, a silver service, speeches, music, and a luncheon.
Clarke township council approves a Centennial project to acquire twenty two acres along the Oreno creek for park lands and nature areas. Land costs total 4400 with development at 8000, grants of nearly 8000 expected from province and federal governments, leaving 4000 to be raised locally.
