A powerful Tuesday night wind storm in Orono caused extensive damage to trees roofs barns and the hydro system. Four hydro poles fell on Cobb Hill and many houses barns and shops suffered broken roofs and debris cleanup stretched into Wednesday as residents repair and resume normal life.

Western Farmers To Help With Hay Crop
About 500 to 1,000 prairie farm workers will be hired on Ontario farms this summer under a federal provincial plan announced by Hon. Humphrey Mitchell. Ontario's deputy minister of agriculture, W. R. Beek, says the exact number will be settled soon. The initial need is for help with the hay crop, especially in the area from Peterboro west, to provide six to eight weeks of steady work.

Butter Production Up For Five Month Period
Ontario creamery butter production in May reached 8 605 000 pounds, down 4.3 percent from May 1942. For January–May 1943 total output 29 345 400 pounds, up 6.7 percent from the same period in 1942. Toronto warehouses held 1 584 000 pounds on June 1, up from May 1 and well above last year. Durham county five month output rose to 804 467 pounds, vs 299 516 in 1942, an increase of 4 951 pounds for the year.
