Star Studded Variety Concert At Orono Dancing School
Youthful performers aged 3 to 16 presented thirty two acts of ballet tap and novelty numbers in a two night show at Township Hall Orono. Promoted by the Orono School of Dancing under instructor Mrs Van den Heuvel the program featured colorful costumes painted stage settings and pan tomime and comedy numbers drawing warm audience praise despite a smaller turnout than prior years.

Orono Park Board to buy new playground gear and repair court
The Orono Park Board met with members and a delegation from the Orono Amateur Athletic Association. They will purchase playground equipment for small children and consider placing it north of the swimming tank or south of the bathing booth. The Tennis Court will be resurfaced and new backstops priced. The group aims to have the court usable by July 1 and will visit a playground manufacturer in Agincourt on June 13th. Lions representatives attended, with members in Peterborough for the convention and the moth parade Sunday.

The Orono piano recital hosted by Mrs. M. H. Staples featured Ross Tamblyn as chair and Marie Hooey as the storyteller for Schubert and Mozart. Department Fights Forest Fires From Airplane Tanks
Ontario’s fire service tests water dropping from two 100 gallon tanks mounted on Otter aircraft to dampen small fires. Water scooped from lakes fills tanks in 30 seconds at 20 to 25 mph, with drops from about 100 feet creating fine droplets over the fire. The method aims to suppress nearby brush and small blazes and may be adaptable to Beaver planes later.
