Three Reasons Why Canning Sugar Shortage in Canada

Hon. J. L. Isley told the House of Commons that Canadian housewives will face less sugar for canning due to three factors. First, ships that would bring sugar to Canada have been diverted to North Africa. Second, many vessels carrying sugar have sunk, with 40 to 50 million pounds lost. Third, sugar beet prospects are not as bright as expected, with Canada normally deriving about 90,000,000 pounds from this source.
