Orono Centennial Fiddlers Contest and Ball Celebrate Town
Orono marked centennial week with an Old Time Fiddler's contest at Orono Arena sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Seven fiddlers competed with Michael Kirkton of Bowmanville named best, Lynal Gervais of Lindsay second, and Mrs. William Bunting of Orono third. Prize money totaled 100 dollars. A later Centennial Ball drew 150 to 175 attendees with costumes, a nine piece band, and speeches. The Orono Amateur Athletic Association expects to clear over 200 dollars to help offset artificial ice costs. A Shopper's Mall filled Main Street with merchants, many from beyond the area, as Park to Centre Street closed for the event.
