Canada announces delayed meat rationing with hotel and restaurant coupons starting July 18 and two meatless days weekly. Individual consumption capped at 1 1/3 pounds per person weekly, 69 1/3 pounds per year, while hotels and heavy buyers push per capita totals up. Poultry excluded from rationing.
Clarke Township Council met July 3 1945 in the Council Chamber Oiono with all members present. Minutes were approved and routine business noted including Glover Brothers road concern awaiting Fence Viewers award. Bills were ordered paid and the next meeting set for August 7 1945 at 1 30 PM.
John G. Honey 96 died July 5 in Santa Barbara hospital. He once ran a cheese factory in Orono later becoming a butter factory after selling to Henry Junker. Survived by two daughters and two sons. Funeral July 7 at Welch & Ryce Chapel.
Wartime Prices and Trade Board urges housewives to plan butter use as weekly rations adjust. One coupon will be skipped this month, extending seven weeks of value over eight, with a subsequent nine-week cycle. Final sugar allotment available after July 19, with ten coupons valid. New canning recipes from Ottawa aid fruit preservation. Food packers will repurpose surplus fruits into jams and canned goods.

Park Street Sunday School held its annual picnic on July 5 at Orono Community Memorial Park. About 120 people enjoyed group games, swimming, running and variety races, tug of war, supper, and a baseball game, with thanks to organizers.
The Orono Oddfellows Service Club sent cigarettes and chewing gum to Canadian troops overseas. Letters from servicemen praise the parcel shipments, noting improved morale and stronger ties to home. Messages mention three hundred cigarettes, gum treats, and hopes for a reunion on Main Street. Continued on page four.
The weekly church service has been moved to seven p m and will continue at that time until further notice. The community reports visitors and local events including Edith Trull visiting with her father at Carl Billings Sergi and Bert Syers families. Carmen Tennant and bride from British Columbia welcomed. Carmen to report to Toronto on the thirteenth. Leskard Players praised for In Doubt about Daisy at Ken dal L O L. Horace Helly opens Butters place. he returns from overseas for five years. Multiple visits from Alf Lomis Toronto Lawrence Beel Kendal Art Bell Bowmanville holidaying with Mrs Bell. Jack Walsh nearing completion of a personal boat with Ed Neilson assisting. Lions Carnival Bowmanville yields no local prize. nearest prize went to Whitby.
North Group submitted $11.50 after the meeting. The session closed with the national anthem and Mizpah benediction.
The Durham County Federation of Agriculture holds a July 19 picnic at Orono Community Memorial Park with two new features a literature booth and Forestry Station truck trips. Plans include county forums visitation in the fall and a August 2 meeting arranged by the president.
Notices demand removal of private use snow fence from township property. Since owners have not complied, stricter measures will be taken under township and highway department laws as they are part owners of township lands.
Kathleen H Ard, teacher, presents grade results showing student scores across grades from 1 to 8. Notable scores include Valena Copping 88 and Erla Chapman 85 with several 70s among peers.
Grade seven includes Douglas Allen and Bill Edwardson. Grade six lists Jim Edwardson. Grade five honors go to Arlene Rainey and Ethel Dawson. Grade four honors to Catherine Power and Lucille Edwardson. Grade eight features Anne Stapleton and Jean Bullock. Grade two lists Merle Stapleton, Betty Bullock, Blanche Tran with the teacher.
Mr and Mrs Albert Morton and Dick opened their Park Street home for a July 4 choir gathering. After the regular practice a business meeting elected officers with Miss Anna Staples as secretary. President Colin Taylor and other officers, plus section leaders, were announced amid thanks to organist Mrs R H Brown. A lunch concluded the enjoyable evening.
