Kawartha Regional Detention Centre Site Questioned
A 97 acre Bowles property in Cavan Township is deemed suitable for the Kawartha Regional Detention Centre with an estimated $1.5 million building cost plus furnishings and fees. An $18,000 land price is eyed with a July 7 meeting set with Cavan Township to discuss the centre. Funding split earmarks Peterborough city and the county at 50 percent, Northumberland and Durham at 30 percent, and Victoria Harbourton at 20 percent. Allan Grossman approved the proposal on June 17 along with two other regional centres. Construction may trigger a $750 building permit fee for Cavan.
