Pioneers' descendants mark 60th wedding anniversary in Darlington
Life-long residents Mrs. Arthur B. Werry and her husband celebrated sixty years of marriage lacking ill health in later life. The couple, who settled on Lot 38 Con 1 Daylington, have three children J Brees Lois exst Bowmanville Melbotene Terry Clerad Oshawa and Elton Werry. Close relatives attended a family gathering with neighbors from Bowmanville Toronto Oshawa and nearby areas. A note from Prime Minister Mackenzie King was among the cherished keepsakes.

Woman's Missionary Society Opens Year With Meeting
The first 1948 meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society at Park St. Sunday School was led by president Mrs. Delve. Officers were installed by Mrs. Eustace. A clothing drive for Western Europe, Japan and Korea was read by Miss M. Davey. The group planned an afternoon tea for February to fund literature and honor memory of Mrs. B. CH. Brown.

Ninety Students Attend Annual Short Course in Rural Leadership

The Homemakers Club held its third meeting January 5 at Mrs. Ross Gilbart's home. The group approved minutes, assigned setup book duties, and chose The B. 1 Club as the new name suggested by Jean Rainey. Lyall Corden Dies Sudden in Rochester
Lyall Corden, longtime Bowmanville rural delivery manager for Canada Bread Os, died suddenly of a heart attack while visiting relatives in Rochester New York. He was born in Kendal Clarke Township and is survived by his wife Maud Ruiter. Interment was in Hampton Cemetery on Tuesday December 30. A crowd from Ovono and Clarke Union attended the funeral.
