Orono School Section Holds Last Meeting Before Dissolution
The last annual meeting of Orono School Section 12 drew six ratepayers, the poorest attendance in years, as board dissolution loomed on December. Trustees reported fence upgrades and new equipment while seven rooms operated with new teachers. The area board plans monthly meetings at different schools starting January 11, aiming to maintain high educational standards.

Merry Music Makers Christmas Carol Party and Elections
The Merry Music Makers met on Wednesday December 30 1954 at Mrs Staples home for a Christmas Carol Party with Arlene Allin at the piano. Donald McKenzie led an officers meeting naming Ellen Millson president Elaine Schmid vice president Sally Staples secretary Suzanne Bunting convenor of games and recreation. Attendees included Suzanne and Catherine Bunting Beverly and Ronda Tennant and many others. After carols and Milano numbers the group played a game and refreshments were served. Ellen Millson gave a Churchill line of the century speech and won a school competition. The note marks the last annual meeting in Orono and the district.

Oshawa Ski Club Sees Snow Hope Growth Ahead
Snowfell last Saturday and Sunday drew about five hundred enthusiasts to Oshawa Ski Hills east of Kirby. Three of seven tows operated on Sunday, new runs cleared and bush removed with a fourth tow added. Over 2300 members joined the club with expected growth to 2500, awaiting deeper snow to fully open facilities.

Reeve John Stone Hosts Kirby Dinner with Council
Reeve John Stone hosted the annual Reeve's dinner in Kirby after council opening ceremonies led by Rev Basil Long. A turkey dinner at Kirby United Church was catered by local ladies while H Earl Walkey received a mantel clock and Foster a cigar humidor. Earl Walkey then presented Stone a key to the council chambers.

Clarke Township Council Names New Members and Committees
The Clarke Township Council held its inaugural meeting with two new councillors Orme Falls and Lloyd Lowery welcomed aboard. Reeve J. Stone chaired with Lorne Perrault named deputy reeve as committees were appointed. Robert Chater remains on council.

Dent Couple Celebrates Twenty Fifth Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Dent celebrated their twenty fifth anniversary on December 30 with a party for 125 guests at Orono Town Hall. The couple, married in 1939, were joined by four children Gordon David Krista and Loren, former neighbours and school friends.

The Orono HiC held a New Year’s Eve Dance in the Lower Auditorium with about sixty youngsters attending. Girls assisted with lunch and food, prizes were awarded for novelty dances, and a midnight service followed the party before a light post event meal.
