Orono Continues Plan To Replace Old Blackboards
The Orono Continuation School held its annual meeting in the assembly room on December 29 with a small turnout. Trustee Rh Waddell was re-elected for 1958 and presented a report praising agriculture education and improved attendance. New slate blackboards will replace the old shiny ones, staff work remains harmonious, and a flagpole and flag were installed. The board discussed compulsory future studies in Shop Mechanics and Home Economies, with an estimated equipment cost around 2000 dollars and potential total cost to the town near 4000 dollars if the Department of Education covers 50 percent. A motion proposed submitting the matter to a general meeting of ratepayers if compulsory.
