Orono Police Trustees Approve 1965 Budget Plan

The Orono Police Trustees finalized a 1965 village budget totaling 21 641.00 including 23 new street lights and road repairs 7 000.00 plus 2 000.00 for additional street lights and 2 100.00 for street light operation. The plan funds sidewalks beautification and water works projects while addressing sewer work on Church Street South and Cobble Dick Street. Millbrook Wins Atom Tournament Final in Orono

Millbrook defeated Cannington 7 to 6 in a thriller for the Little NHL Atom championship in Orono last Saturday. Orone and District Credit Union Declares 3 Percent Dividend

The Orone and District Credit Union held its annual meeting in Oddfellows Hall and declared a 3 percent dividend amounting to 839.22. The year ended with a net profit of 1227.91 for 144 members, assets of 26567.37, and income of 1794.29. E Blewett Joe Walker Robert Allin were re elected. Ellen Millson Winne Leads Orono Speaking Contest Winners

Ellen Millson Winne and Marie Yeo won first and second in the Public Speaking Contest at Orono Tuesday night, the county final with ten finalists. Millson, eighth grader at Orono Public School, advances to the District Zone 3 contest in Havelock March 27.

Carruthers Speaks in Orono Endorses Pension Rise

Ontario M.P.P. Alex Carruthers spoke at an Orono area Credit Union meeting urging a raise of the Old Age Security from 75 dollars to 100 dollars monthly. He cited 1965 figures showing only 131000 of 1481000 seniors would receive benefits plus modest averages. He linked retirement trends and urbanization to rising elder financial worries.
