Orono Baseball Club held its annual meeting at the Orono Restaurant Dining Hall. Harry Mercer was elected president, William Carman secretary, Ambergon Gerry treasurer and grounds keeper, Lyall Lowery manager, with F. E. Lycett named coach though absent. Dean West named possible coach. Financial report shows $208.64 bank balance as of Feb 1 1957 and gate receipts of $1154.15 for the year.

Orono residents Mr and Mrs Hutton celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at St Saviors Sunday School Hall. The Lakeshore league prepares to welcome Orono for a basketball season as the club reports a strong 1956 with a solid bank balance and leadership in the final series against Port Hope. the championship final was not completed.

Women’s Association Highlights January Meeting in Kendal
Mrs Jack Stapleton chaired the Kendal Women’s Association gathering on January 30 with a strong turnout. They planned to buy a vacuum cleaner for church cleaning and discussed road improvements including oiling and chip stone on one mile of village roads at an estimated 1200 per mile, sharing costs among Township Village and Province.

Orono Figure Skating Club Demo To Highlight Evening
The Orono Figure Skating Club plans a February 16 demonstration at the Orono Rink. Director C Hutton will MC a program of fancy skating with group numbers duets and solos in costumes followed by free skating. Admission is 50 cents for adults 25 cents for school children and free for preschool children.

Junior Red Cross Sends School Supplies Overseas
Grade 5 and 6 pupils at Orono Public School have been Junior Red Cross members since September 1956. Officers elected include President Leslie Hopper Lee and Treasurer Wayne Miller. A monthly collection funds pencils scribblers erasers for shipment to Red Cross Headquarters for distribution to the country with greatest need. Students also knit squares to aid the Red Cross.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Mr. Lorne Robbins who died at Mt. Sinai Hospital Toronto on February 3. He was born in Leskard and later lived on the farm owned by EB Green. He loved sports and fairs and is survived by daughter Pauline and two grandchildren, along with brothers Art and Frank.

WMS Meeting Summary From Orono United Church
The regular WMS meeting in the Sunday School room of Orono United Church on February 5th was chaired by Mrs. Drummond. The service included scripture from Ephesians, a duet by Mrs. Cecil Jones and Mrs. C Wood, minutes approved, Treasurer's report given, 32 ladies attended with 84 visits. An invitation was accepted for February 28th birthday party. Delegates announced for the presbytery at Whiby on February 21st. Auditors named as Mrs H Dean and Mrs E Graham. Meeting adjourned after Mizpah benediction.
