Orono Red Cross Bazaar Nets 242 At Town Hall Sale

The 5th annual Red Cross Bazaar in Orono raised 242 dollars at the town hall on Saturday December 11. The event featured home cooking farm produce a children’s pond prize booth and various booths including school fancy work and apron. Prizes were awarded to Frank Hall James Moffat Mrs James Moffat Mrs A E West with leftovers displayed at Dean's Bake Shop. A community effort supported by donors buyers and volunteers.

British Columbia firm fined 1500 for illegal sugar purchase

Wartime regulation fines show the largest 1500 dollar penalty this week for a British Columbia soft drink company, with a 1000 dollar second highest fine in Quebec for selling used clothing at high prices. Ninety five people prosecuted for wartime rules. 52 convicted under Wartime Prices and Trade Board. 44 for Munitions and Supply controls violations.

He details bargaining with Italian peddlers for walnuts peanuts grapes and oranges by the carload and notes shops selling leather goods silk stockings and even dinners ice cream and jelly beans. Durham County Plowmen Hold Annual Meeting

Fire early Wednesday evening nearly destroyed the home of Miss Ednah Stutt in Orone south, rented by Mr and Mrs James Stevenson. The blaze started in the cellar near the furnace, filled the house with smoke, and spread to the kitchen before firefighters confined it. Damage is expected to be light with only scorched kitchen furniture and walls.

Dur ham County Plowmens' Association Sees Growth Plans

The Dur ham County Plowmens' Association met at Millbrook with strong officer turnout. Plans for next year push for more apple prizes and broader participation as eighteen entries this year fell short. next year’s match may be held in Cartwright or South Monaghan.

Short Course For Farm Youths At Orono

Clarke and Darlington Township farm youths aged twelve to thirty learn agriculture in a five day Orono course at the Town Hall from December 27 to 31. Morning seed work and afternoon live stock judging on local farms are planned with a farm tour on Friday visiting Oshawa Brooklin and Pickering. Winners will receive Ajax oats for the Grain Club.
