Cyclist Lloyd Leads Then Loses Canadian Motorcycle Race at Mosport

Recreation Program Ends With Tin Can Derby
The Orono Park recreation program wrapped up the summer with a Tin Can Derby. Winners included Raye West and Shelley Mercer in the can race, David Mercer and Carol Mercer in bowling, Michael Carmen and Carol Mercer in slalom, and David Manning and Carol Mercer in the target event. Carol Mercer and Raye West were named Grand Champions for accumulating the most points. Participants then enjoyed a farewell party.

Fort Hope Takes 2 1 Lead In Series At Port Hope
Port Hope won 2 to 1 on Orono’s home field to move ahead two games to one in the seven game Orono Port Hope CBA series. Dean West starred with two singles and a spectacular outfield catch while Beaton scored the lone Orono run. Bill Wakley earned the win. Keith West took the loss as Crono protested after seven innings. The game was called after seven innings though play was available for nine. The series resumes tonight at 5 30 in Orono Park with Orono aiming to tie.

Guides To Benefit From Tea Served At Fair
A 3 percent ton Mobile Tea Wagon with three uniformed hostesses will visit Orono for the Fall Fair on September 8 and 9. The wagon, built for Salada Foods, serves 300 cups per hour and supports the Local Girl Guide Association. Newtonville Motor Crash Claims Carl Pandoff
A 31 year old Newtonville man, Carl Pandoff, was killed when a westbound car swerved and struck his parked motorcycle on highway 2. Witnesses said his friend Phil Gilmer jumped clear as Pandoff was hurled about fifty feet. The driver, Frederick F. Swaine of Lindsay, remained at the scene. Pandoff, employed by General Motors in Oshawa, leaves a sister Kathleen and brothers Peter and Alex. Nick preceded him in death.
