CHUC a new broadcast station owned by United Counties Broadcasting Company Limited begins on 1560 AM next week with 181 000 watts. Listeners from Port Hope to Belleville Cobourg to Snug Harbor Bowmansville Havelock Peterborough Lindsay Oshawa and beyond will receive sunrise to sunset programming as surveys show coverage across Northumberland Durham and areas north to Oshawa Belleville Peterborough and Lindsay.

Trustees Have Little Business Hydro Surplus Over $4,000

Orono Police Trustees met in the Orono Hydro Office with full attendance. They reported new and completed year projects, discussed parking lines, speeding, by law updates, and a Transient Trader license fee set at $100. The board authorized drainage and curb reviews, planned floor refinishing, and approved higher fire insurance. Bills totaled over $1,880, leaving just over $4,000 in the bank, enabling a one time pension payment save.

Lily grower Rickaby nurtures 35 lily varieties in Oakville

At 27 Douglas St L Oakville Mr Rickaby cultivates lilies from seed. it takes about three years to grow. He raises 35 varieties with several hundred blooms. flowering starts mid June and lasts to September with about 15 varieties blooming at peak. He spends many hours tending his garden.

Mrs. St. John Appointed To Orono High School Staff

Mrs J W St John appears on the Orono High School faculty filling the late July vacancy created by Miss I Wautier who left to take a post in Europe. The new teacher holds a Western Ontario degree and brings French German English plus strong secretarial and business experience and will teach French Typewriting Office Practice Bookkeeping Library Science and Girls Physical Education.

Many Pass Red Cross Swim Tests At Orone Pool

The final Red Cross Swimming Tests were held at the Orone Pool on Tuesday afternoon with many young swimmers aiming for awards. Instructors Beth Wilbur Gail Cooper Joan Alldred Mary Ann Armstrong led a five week program, culminating in pass lists across categories including Juniors Intermediates and Seniors.

Orono Defeats Cobourg in Lakeshore Playdowns

Orono Intermediates overcome Cobourg 9 to 2 in the Lakeshore playdowns with Robbie Robinson driving offense. Robinson had two singles and a triple in four at bats, scoring and driving in runs as Orono rallied from an early Cobourg lead. Winning pitcher Keith West allowed seven hits and six strikeouts over the full nine innings.

Frith’s Three Bagger Forces Tie For Orewe

In Port Hope on Thursday evening Bob Frith delivered a three bagger driving in Terry Carleton to tie the game at 10 all in the seventh. Frith’s second hit of the contest came with Ralph Kennedy also contributing two hits. Tenry Carleton of Orono walked sixteen and fanned thirteen while Ian Campbell of Port Hope struck out eleven and yielded six walks.
