Heather Lodge celebrates 20th anniversary in Oshawa

Heath er Rebekah Lodge No. 334 held its 20th anniversary with Sister Jean Wood presiding. District Deputy Presidents, guests, and the first Noble Grand were honored as members received jewelry and pens. A varied program included songs, skits, recitations, and a birthday cake.

Clarke Township Public School Budget Hikes Tax Rate

Clarke Township board set a 358,402 budget with local taxpayers footing 127,120 and a 4.5 mill tax increase. Kendal addition costs 100,000 plus 5,000 for a stage. 66,000 paid this year with remainder in 1968. Hew Kirby debentures not funded this year.

Orono Junior Band Show Promising Progress At Concert

The Orono Junior Band under Mr A Darch presented its third band concert at Clarke High School. Thirty seven musicians performed ten selections with improved playing ability though some tension limited fullness. Notable pieces Andantino and Blue Nocturne waltz impressed. the ensemble featured trumpets French horns altos bass baritones trombones saxophones clarinets and flute and included a vocal trio Jimmy Partner Lloyd Gifford.

Mothers of Orono Form Hockey Mothers Association

Mothers of Orono formed a Hockey Mothers Association at Orono Arena on Wednesday evening. The group discussed support for village hockey and elected officers including President Mrs L Taylor Vice-president Mrs Joz a Cox Secretary-Treasurer Mrs J West and directors Mrs Beverley West Mrs Shirley Black Mrs Joanne Hutton Mrs Simone Groeneveld Mrs Rhea Van Seggelen and Mrs Florence Allen.

Orono Junior Band to Play April 12 at Clarke High

Douglas Perrin and tar with David Forrester delighted the audience as plans for a summer class to form a band were announced by chairman W A Allin. Registration may be made to Allin Carman Cornish Roy Forrester or Mrs A Darch lead er of the Junior Band. Mr Darch will conduct the classes. The band will perform at Assembly at Clarke High School on April 12 at 9 00 pm. They have also been invited to a Cobourg Band Shell concert later in the summer.

Village General 1967 Mill Rate to Increase

Orono Police Trustees plan a higher 1967 Police Village mill rate of 16.8271 up from 11.193 in 1966 to fund a $108,000 road program. The road rate drops to 2.165 mills from 4.1349 as funds shift, with $6,500 budgeted for roads and $4,600 for maintenance. Projected total revenue from Police Village and general sources reaches $19,720, excluding water charges.

Clarke Library loan surge boosts March reading figures

Reading activity at Clarke Public Library rose in March with 1488 books checked out, up by 300 from the prior year. Township residents increasingly use the library, while Mrs. E Schmid seeks help from the Board to expand and prepare material for an Orono history book.

Skaters Pass Tests At Millbrook Arena

Skaters from the Orono Figure Skating Club succeeded in tests at Millbrook Arena on Saturday. Dutch Waltz results include Cheryl Cornish and Susan West. Swing Dance by Bonnie Barlow. Municipality Board Shows Interest in History Publication

The Board expressed interest in a history project and stated that this support should be reflected in any publication about history in the Municipality. Mrs. E. Schmid was noted as a contact for pictures of interest.

Orono Midgets Reach Tourney Final in Millbrook

Orono Midgets advanced to the championship game after beating Millbrook 3-2 in a third period rally and defeating Newcastle 8-1 before losing 3-1 to Lakefield in the final. Eric Duvall led scores with assists by Steven West and others across the three games.

Orono Hydro Manager Applications Opened

Last Thursday the Orono Hydro Commissioners opened ten applications for the manager position. No decision was made. The 1966 audit showed a net surplus of just over 2000 dollars after depreciation while working capital was nil and there was a depletion of 11200 dollars. The commission will study the matter further and prepare by laws for deposits and protections against subdivision costs. Mr Nicholson assigned Mr Lycett to draft the by law.
