Port Hope Agrees to New High School Levy Plan

After a three hour meeting Port Hope urged equalized assessment as the basis for 1953 school tax and offered to fund new High School buildings in Port Hope and a Bowmanville addition if eight municipalities approve hiring of architects. Port Hope would pay a higher levy under the new plan but others must consent to the building program and debenture debt.

Rebekah Lodge Celebrates Sixth Anniversary in Orono

Rebekah Heather No 384 marked six years on March 24 with visits from Sunshine No 222 Oshawa Ganaraska No 131 Port Hope Oshawa No 3 and Bee Hive No 125 Bowmanville. Dowager Queen Mary died and a moment of silence was held. Members present included Past Pres Sister Mabel Disney and Dist Dep Pres Eva Hastings District No 8 Oshawa Hast. The event grew from 35 to 87 members. Twelve Charter Members attended. A Lazy Susan tray was presented from Oshawa Lodge No 3. The social hour featured music by Chas Taylor Chas Cooper the Orono Band Carlos Tamblyn Earl Brown Gerald Brown Jack Allin and Mrs William Leach the elocutionist.

Rural Mail Delivery and Village Incorporation

Orono Cubs Set April Father and Son Banquet

Orono Cubs and Cub Mothers announce a Father and Son banquet on Monday April 27 at the United Church Sunday School Auditorium. Leaders Miss Maureen McKenna Mrs Don Goode and Mr Jack Wilson are credited with guiding the program which now includes about thirty boys from Orono Leskard Kirby and Clarke Union. Committees were formed and a possible summer weekend trip to a Boy Scout Camp near Oshawa is discussed to enrich Cub activities. Officers elected include President Mrs Raa Garl eton Vice President Mrs 2 Rickaby and Secretary-Tregsiffer Mrs S Barra ball with support from Mrs Dorothy Bailey Mrs W Reid and Mrs R Thompson.
