Cedar Dale Dairy Adopts Horse Drawn Wagon for War Effort
Cedar Dale Dairy has bought a delivery horse and ordered a larger up to date wagon from H B McGinnis in Peterborough. Delivery is expected by May 1. The change is a step to save gas for the war effort.

Ontario Butter Production Rises in Early 1943
Creamery butter in Ontario for February 1943 reached 3 979 400 pounds, up 63 percent from February 1942. Total butter for the first two months of 1943 is 8 241 300 pounds, about 3.0 percent above the same period in 1942. Toronto warehouses on March 1 hold 970 700 pounds, above February’s 814 900 but far below March 1941 figures. Durham County February 1943 output stands at 43 402 pounds, with January–February 1943 totaling 88 588 pounds, up from 85 929 in 1942.

A ledger excerpt from an early Orono businessman shows 19th century retail items and prices. Butter 16 cents a pound, tea 50 cents per pound, eggs 10 cents per dozen, flour $2.25 per barrel, lumber 7 to 10 dollars per thousand, chicken 6 cents a pound, pork 8 cents a pound, shingles 2.25 dollars per thousand, cedar posts 5 cents each, boots from 1 to 3 dollars per pair, turkey 50 cents, fur coats 18 to 30 dollars, other goods including tobacco, nails, and matches.
