Sgt Ken Westfall husband of the former Peggy Taylor of Georgetown was reunited with his wife and son Kenneth last week after four years overseas. He served with the Lorne Scots and went abroad in 1941 as pay sergeant at No. 4 OCITR in England.

Sgt George Darby Arrives in Georgetown After Overseas
Sgt George Darby who has served since December 1940 and has been overseas since June 1941 arrived in Georgetown last weekend. He lived in Port Credit at enlistment and his wife and children Allan and Bill have since resided with her parents in Georgetown. Darby was a member of the RCHME.

Brampton Soldier George Marsden Returns Home
Sgt George Marsden of the Lake Superior Regiment came home to Brampton after wartime service. He went overseas in 1940 and 1944, served as an instructor in 1942, suffered second degree burns in Belgium, and spent five weeks in an English hospital. He will resume duties with the Ontario Hydro Commission. his wife Violet Tedder of Georgetown and daughter Carol join him.

Don Early Home on 45 Day Leave From Navy Service
Don Early returns home on a 45 day leave with Major and Mrs. Arnott Early and hopes to obtain discharge after leave. He enlisted a year and a half ago as a Georgetown High School student, served on the east coast, then joined HMCS Ottawa and sailed to Scotland. His elder brother Captain Bob Early serves with the Canadian army in Holland.

Chief ERA Norman Herbert Home on Leave During Discharge
Chief ERA Norman Herbert and his wife Margaret Oliver visit his parents at their Main Street home while on leave pending discharge. Norman enlisted in March 1941 and served 43 months aboard the corvette Battleford on convoy duty in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean. He has been in Charlottetown since February. He worked at the Provincial Coating Mill at enlistment.

Soldier Archie Lawr Returns Home From Overseas
Spr. Archie Lawr arrived in Georgetown aboard the Empress of Scotland after crossing from England and docking at Quebec City. He is the last of three Lawr brothers to return from WWII service with the RCFE, following Sheldon and Lymn Harvey. He enlisted in March 1941 and served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He married Kathleen Mary Spinks in England. they have two children, Jean Elizabeth and Peter Stanley, born in Brampton hospital. Their family has been living on Main Street North since Mrs. Lawr arrived from England.

Local hockey figure Cal Ken Richardson returns home from overseas
Prominent hockey figure Cal Ken Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Richardson, arrived back in Canada after service with the RCA. He trained at Brantford and Hamilton and saw duty in France after D Day, later serving as an anti aircraft instructor in England. He returned aboard the Scythia docking at Quebec City, though his homecoming was delayed by illness in hospital there.

L Cpl David Hodge of Stewarttown is welcomed home after four years with the Ordnance Corps. Enlisting in 1941, he trained at Guelph and Petawawa and served in Sicily Italy France Holland and Germany. He married Agnes Chisholm and was formerly employed by Beardmore & Co in Acton. He crossed from England on the St Lawrence.

Flying Officer Leonard Bell Returns Home After Service
Flying Officer Leonard Bell arrived in Quebec City aboard the Empress of Scotland and went home to Georgetown on Sunday. He served two years as a flight engineer in the RCAF and went overseas last December. Son of Mr. and Mrs. W G Bell, he will resume his job at Georgetown Clay Products after discharge. Mrs. Bell, formerly Margaret Sheppard of Aurora, and the couple have two children Dennis and Brenda.

Third of four Emmerson brothers to come home this year Sgt Steve Emmerson arrived aboard the Nieuw Amsterdam last week after service in Sicily Italy France Belgium Holland and Germany Since 1941 he served with the Lorne Scots and is on thirty days leave at Emery Street with wife Claire Asselin and daughter Marie His youngest brother Wheldon remains overseas while Pilot Officer Jim Emmerson lives in Halifax and Tpr Bob Emmerson is in Acton both now back in Canada.

Two Sets of Twins Among 39 Beginners at Public School
Among the 39 youngsters enrolled at Georgetown Public School for the first time this year are two sets of twins. Paul and Michael Armstrong and Ross and Robert Hillier are the siblings. Terrible Terra Cotta Tragedy Claims Brampton Man
Roy Miller, 45, of Brampton, was killed when a truck crushed him at a culvert on Stringer Hill near Terra Cotta last Wednesday night. The truck rolled over the culvert eye and pinned Miller. Mrs McQuarrie and another child escaped injury. the driver and occupants suffered minor hurts. Dr C V Williams treated the McQuarries at the scene and Constable Ray Mason investigated the accident. Miller is survived by his wife and family in Brampton along with two brothers and his father.

Mrs. Margaret Chapman Returns Home After Navy Service
Petty Officer Margaret Chapman, after a year as a motor transport driver with the Navy stationed at HMCS Niobe in Greenock Scotland, has returned to Canada to visit her parents at their Georgetown area farm. Enlisted December 31 1942 with RCNVR she served in Galt Vancouver and Victoria prior to overseas duty and married Sgt George Chapman in Vancouver July 5 1943. She arrived Halifax September 4 aboard HMCS Puncher and received discharge before going home. Previously a Glen Williams School teacher and Research Enterprise employee at Leaside.

Georgetown native Fred Ruston dies in Toronto
Frederick Ruston of Georgetown died in Toronto General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Georgetown 82 years ago, he trained as a pharmacist, worked for several Toronto firms, and last with Boyes Drug Co in Pickering. He was predeceased by wife in 1926 and survived by son Harold and two sisters. Funeral held in Toronto with burial at Mount Pleasant.
