Born in Orenville Ontario on January 2 1887 he studied at Bank University and Manitoba University Law School. He enlisted in Winnipeg May 1915 served as a private became lieutenant colonel 1923 and major 1902. He rose to Assistant Judge Advocate General in 1940 and later commissioner of interment operations. He became a lawyer in Winnipeg with a wide practice and lectured at the University of Manitoba Law School.

He lived in the Tuanship all his life and was a member of Hornby Presbyterian Church. Nellie Thurston died in Toronto General Hospital on Monday September 7. She was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robert Thurston a pioneer family of the district. The funeral from Wear Funeral Home Toronto to Greenwood Cemetery Cheorketown was held Wednesday afternoon. Surviving are brothers William and Albert Thurston of Toronto and sister Lillian of Toronto.

Job Insurance Fund Reported Amounts At Conference
Commissioner JW Willard told the Ontario Postmasters' conference that the job insurance fund stands at 65,909,120 pounds with 54,434,275 collected. Government contributions raised the fund to 65,000,120 dollars and benefits paid total 101,541. In July, 60,000 of the jobless were employable, 17,000 partly so and 21,060 unemployable. In six months, 230,092 have been placed at work.
