Georgetown adds three teachers to High School staff
Three new teachers join Georgetown High School as part of staff expansion to offset losses from last year. The new wing will offer a four day week until classrooms are ready, including a pilot lab and commercial room. Mrs Grace Emerson, Mr Arthur Dobson, and Mr Tom Beer fill key positions in history geography English maths and science.

Sister Dies in Ohio Former Resident Here
Death claims Mrs. Kenneth Comrie of Elyria Ohio a former Georgetown resident. She visited her sister Mrs Mary E Morrow of Georgetown and died August 31. She was born June 1 1889 in Caledon East Canada and moved to the United States in 1911 living in Cleveland and Elyria. She is survived by husband two sons four daughters seventeen grandchildren six great grandchildren and many siblings. Burial was at Lakewood Park Cemetery Rocky River after services at Ludo Curtis Funeral Home conducted by Rev Ralph Neighbour.

Esso Station Displays Sailplane Trainer
Since Sunday September 7 a 36 foot sailplane occupies the Esso showroom run by Herkes and Raycroft. The single seat trainer was acquired by the Georgetown Aero Club Harmonie which owns a 260 acre flying field near Belwood. The club uses a two seater night performer and tow winch to launch the sailplane and aims to tow it to 1 200 feet in under a minute. An event is planned for October 14.

Council discusses relief of education costs and ambulance needs

Tank truck crash injures driver on Norval Hill
Lambert Bellar, 38, of Newmarket, was seriously hurt when his tank truck plunged into the east ditch on Norval Hill in heavy fog. He was pinned in the cab for over an hour and rescued as emergency crews battled to prevent a fuel explosion. Traffic was detoured and Port Credit OPP investigated.

Georgetown’s three public schools report 1316 students, a new high, with 35 teachers plus a music supervisor and kindergarten assistant. Chapel 386, Wrigglesworth 497, Harrison 433 pupils.
