Georgetown hosts a fair day with social and personal notices including visitors and weekend guests. At a meeting last Tuesday the Georgetown Hockey Club unanimously decided to honor the 1041 42 season group winners. The club finished with a small bank balance after paying debts and will purchase windbreakers and crests for players including Reg Hoare Jack Kemphead Jac Hall Walter Richardson Bungy Ward Frank Dewhurst Gordon McMurchy Afanaxer ERN Thompson and honoring others for their support and efforts.
A wedding took place at Norman Wrigg lealorth farm home with Norma Buth and Pte. Cheater Harold DePorent as bride and groom. Rev J O Totton officiated, with Tom Bousfield, Hartiy Anderton, and Ruth McCready noted among participants. A reception and neighborhood bash followed with games and music.
After a Texas gale, Ward Ruddel found a Praying Mantid in Ontario, a first for the region. Ontario Agricultural College researchers confirmed it had not been seen locally, though reports existed from Prince Edward County. Mrs John Lucas later found another specimen, shown in the Herald Office window. Mantids grow about three inches, have three pairs of legs, and their front pair is held in a prayer-like pose. They prey on harmful insects and should be considered beneficial rather than destroyed.
Churches were filled on Sunday as Canadians prayed for rededication to the war effort and for a swift lasting victory and peace.
A prominent Toledo, Ohio businessman purchased a block of land in Esquesing Township Ontario. The deal includes the Gowdy property at Limehouse and nearby farms once owned by Mersorse Rob Mesors Robert A Maw Harry Deve ereaux and the Gypsum Linn Co. The old Toronto Lime Co. site features a horse shoe stream, modern brick building, and scenic escarpments attracting tourists.
Township Council met Tuesday September 1 with Mayor Meeve ILC and Councillors Cleave Currie and Wilson. They approved relief and roads expenditures of 40.00 and 1397.96, paid other accounts, approved health and sheep claims, and voted to hire permanent municipal staff including Roberts Thompson and others. council adjourned to October 5.

The Herald reports ongoing staff shifts with P. Bg. Ollmore leaving as printer and no type operator, replaced by Mra C. Macdonald who, with her late husband James, has ties to Unity Times. The paper notes two women joining the editorial roster, marking a first in its history.
The George Town Women's Institute held its fall term kickoff at M. E. Thompson's home with over 30 attendees. Mrs. Merry and Mrs. Burton represented district officers, discussed duties, and a navy duty bag project was approved for funds. Mrs. Snyder won the living room bouquet display prize.
Kineston and Brampton visitors joined Mrs Hunt of Port Credit and Miss Livermore of Toronto over the weekend. Sympathy to Mr Clifford Paul on his father W Paul’s passing at Hamilton General. Burial at Warkworth Tuesday afternoon. Sunday School picnic held with games and lunch. W I met to quilt and plan a corn roast and devotional meeting led by Restor.
Weather looks favorable with no frost yet as Georgetown prepares for a large turnout Friday and Saturday. The annual fair features a potato race tenestas Msi jibe race horus and a baby show with prizes from Bir Gat Outhria, promising a strong entry and lively midway.
The Annual Zone Rally of Canadian Legion auxiliaries met in Georgetown with Comrade Mrs. Pegg of Toronto and provincial officers present. Lira T. Grieve of Georgetown Auxiliary was acclaimed as representative. 180 members from Toronto and several towns attended a supper and national anthem finale.
