Immanuel Lutheran Church Plans First Service in Georgetown
The Immanuel Lutheran Church will hold its first worship service in Georgetown on Sunday at 10 30 a m led by Pastor John Kuffner. Temporary use of the Howard Wrigglesworth School auditorium is approved with future church building site on Delrex Road. A Sunday School and Bible Class will precede the service with volunteers Mrs Russe Diegel Mrs Tracy Barrager and Mrs John Kuffner teaching.

New secretary treasurer for Esquesing School Area No 1
Mrs C A Grant of Stewarttown is elected secretary treasurer succeeding Walter Biehn who has resigned after serving since March. Biehn will continue as publisher of the Georgetown Sterling. Grant, formerly Betty Smethurst, is active in Exquesing Women’s Institute and St John’s Anglican Church. An office will be set up in the township hall. Grant will operate from her home until then. The board oversees seven schools Limehouse Glen Williams Stewarttown Speyside Norval Milton Heights Pineview near Barnby.

Toronto sculptor Leonard Oesterle presents a one man show at House Sol Gallery 45 Char les St opening Sept 7. The exhibit includes sculptures drawings and engravings not previously shown. Oesterle born in 1915 in Germany fled Nazi camps to Switzerland then studied art in Zurich before moving to Canada in 1958.

Mushroom Plant Boosts Esquesing Assessment
An August building permit total of 203 1300 was issued for Esquesing with McNair Products Ltd securing a permit for a mushroom plant near Acton valued at 95. Lemond Hing Building Inspector Win Hulls notes a 7000 permit for radio equipment building and 4060 for steel towers. Most permits covered houses and cottages.

Local Doctor and Wife Celebrate Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
Dr Arthur McAllister and his wife celebrated their 50th anniversary after a August 26 1943 wedding at the bride’s home near Shawville Quebec. They toured western Canada before settling in Georgetown where Dr McAllister has practiced. As many relatives and friends sent congratulations, a large anniversary cake was shared by family near Exeter and Hamilton friends. They have two children Jean M and Arthur E. The Georgetown Citizens Band held its first practice of the new season and plans a split into Junior and Senior units for local musicians.
