Unemployment hits 19 000 area by February says labor council

He cites 12 771 claims in September with 5 033 active in Brampton Georgetown and 7 738 in Mississauga, noting many are hidden unemployed. Gorman lists layoffs at Neilson Chocolates Dollar Fine Papers Abitibi Provincial Paper United Carr TRW Beaumont Knitting Mills Building Products of Canada Northern Telecom American Motors Benson and Hedges Canadian Admiral Bramalea and more, urging government action and tax measures to boost demand and preserve jobs. The CFL plans to present a brief to Premier William Davis after the Toronto forum.
