Up To You Auction for War Funds at Georgetown Arena
Georgetown Arena hosts the Up-To-You sale this Friday October 3 at 8 pm. Auctioneer Frank Petch leads with Hume Currie as chief clerk and many locals donating goods and services including band support from the Lorne Scots and entertainment from Ken Soble and Doc Lindsey. Proceeds benefit Soldiers Comforted Fund B W V Fund and the Red Cross with no gate admission and a large donor list featuring Coca Cola Credit Valley Bottling Wrigley Planters and several regional merchants.

William Vint Dies in Hamilton After Lengthy Illness
William Richard Vint of Georgetown died at Hamilton Sanatorium last Thursday October 16 after four years of illness, with over a year in bed. He was born in Georgetown, survived by his widow Mildred Foster and their son Ronald, three and a half, plus two sisters and a brother. Funeral at his mother's home on John Street conducted by Rev. R C Robert and others, interment Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown.

Dr. C V Williams Georgetown Medical Officer of Health praised the turnout at the Friday Toxoid Diptheria Clinic at the Public School. Seventy two children were inoculated including 46 schoolchildren pushing overall Georgetown school inoculations above 95 percent. 26 preschoolers received their first dose, the largest group to date. The next clinic occurs Friday November 7 for those unable to attend. Georgetown has been free of diphtheria since 1937, the year inoculation began.

Twenty five tables of euchre and seventeen tables of bridge were in play last Friday night in the Arena for the Red Cross fundraiser. A total of $114.01 was realized from ticket and refreshment sales. Mrs. A. B. Wilson led the ladies euchre, while Mrs English tied for first in the men’s. Bridge prizes went to Mrs Gowdy and Bra George Brown tied for first, and to Mr R Nodwell and Mr W F Gray of Ballinafad. Grace Gunby won the War Savings Certificate as the lucky number prize.
